Got Game? Find Out at the New Pelham Street Games
Larger-than-life, full of fun, and excitement for everyone…it’s the Pelham Street Games! The newest element on the street of the award-winning Pelham Summerfest.
Located between College Street and Churchill Street, this area of free family fun offered on Saturday of the festival from 10:00 to 5:00 p.m. will feature nine life-sized versions of classic games thanks to the support from local businesses.
- Arena, sponsored by Pelham Hills Dentistry: This mini hockey arena lets guests play Canada’s national sport without having to lace up skates. Play in 3v3 mode for adults, or 4v4 for kids.
- Buzzlight, sponsored by Mountainview Homes: Ten “buzzers” light up randomly green or red and each player must hit the button of his respective colour as quickly as possible. This game puts your speed and hand-eye coordination to the test!
- eBasketball, sponsored by Marando Family Dentistry: This electronic basketball arcade challenges you to aim, shoot, and score your way to victory. Whether a seasoned pro or new athlete, this will be sure to put a unique new spin on the sport.
- Fastrak, sponsored by Shoppers Drug Mart: Find out how good your hockey skills are as you play on either the speed mode, seeing how fast you can launch the puck, or stopwatch, trying to hit four targets in the net in less than a minute.
- Jumbotowa, sponsored by Sterling Realty: These giant foam blocks put your balancing abilities to the test as you work to remove pieces without bringing the whole tower down.
- King Corn, sponsored by Kirkpatrick Stoneworks: A larger version of the classic cornhole game, players must try to reach 13 points first. For an extra fun twist, try tossing frisbees instead of bags.
- Stadium Foosball, sponsored by Milana Air: Become the pegs on a foosball table as you move left to right working with team members to score points in a 5v5 game.
- Tic Tac Dunk, sponsored by Policella Homes: This remix of basketball and tic tac toe challenges teams to land baseballs labeled with “x” and “o” to designated spots on a board. The first team to get three in a row wins.
- Volleypong, sponsored by Lampmans Furniture: Take turns throwing balls into giant buckets, eliminating each one you reach. Aim well and take out all the other team’s buckets to win.
“One of the goals of Pelham Summerfest is bringing friends, families and neighbours together,“ said Communications Specialist Leah Letford. “With the support of generous local businesses, this new attraction will add a memorable experience for those willing to step up and give a game a try.”
The Pelham Summerfest volunteer group worked throughout the year to add this new element to the street based on feedback provided by previous attendees. With the help of local businesses, the life-sized games will provide another way for families to enjoy free fun during the four-day festival.
Pelham Summerfest has been financially assisted by the Ontario Cultural Attractions Fund a program of the Government of Ontario through the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport, administered by the Ontario Cultural Attractions Fund Corporation.
