There are plenty of ways to be active at Summerfest and you can watch, learn and participate on Saturday & Sunday.
Check out Kids Zumba in Peace Park on Saturday. Join in the Zumba Challenge at the main stage on Pelham Street at 11:00 am. At the south end of the street festival area you will find the Active Zone, hosted by the Pelham Active Transportation Committee, whose vision of an “Open Streets” event was one of driving forces behind the inception of Summerfest. Here you will find Nordic Walking demonstrations starting at 10 am, Tai Chi demonstrations beginning at 12 pm and mini golf from 10 am to 5 pm. This is also the place for skipping, hula hoops, chalk on the street, information on bike safety around big trucks courtesy of LaFarge Canada, pedestrian and cyclist safety information. The Bruce Trail Club will also be in the Active Zone. And don’t forget to fill out a ballot for some great prizes – there’s helmets, Nordic walking poles, a bike and the Summerfest barbeque to be won!
The Pelham Pool, in Marlene Stewart Streit Park, is the site of the Niagara Region Summer Swim League Meet, hosted by the Pelham Penguins from 8am to noon on Saturday morning.
Sunday, you can join the Family Fun Walk leaving from Peace Park at 10 am. Participants have the chance to win a FitBit.
All four days of Summerfest, you can be active getting to the event – ride your bike to the festival area and park it, at no charge, at the Bike Valet. Thursday and Sunday the Bike Valet will be located in Peace Park and Friday and Saturday it will be on the front lawn of the Municipal Offices.
So get moving and get to Summerfest!
