100 days to go!

Building on last year’s energy, enthusiasm and homecoming spirit, Pelham Summerfest 2012 promises to be bigger and better, first and foremost because we have expanded from one day to four.

The anchor event held over all four days this year will be Art in the Park, featuring original fine art works by selected artists from Pelham and beyond.

The show will be held adjacent to Peace Park Thursday evening, Friday evening, all day Saturday, and Sunday until 2 p.m.

The Friday evening show will be held in conjunction with Gala Nuit Blanc, a celebration of arts, culture and culinary delights in the Festival Tent behind the municipal parking lot.

Complementing the art show is the Festival Tent, which will be in place Thursday and Friday evening, and will feature Niagara College wines and beers from the award-winning teaching winery and brewery.

The four-day festival will kick off Thursday afternoon with the Farmers’ Market, followed at 7 p.m. by the regular Fonthill Bandshell Summer Concert Series, which welcomes Gino Monopoli, renowned Elvis tribute artist. As usual, the concert series is a free event in Peace Park, enhanced of course during Summerfest by the refreshments of the Festival Tent!

Saturday events will look familiar to anyone who attended Summerfest 2011, as we bring back popular attractions. Included will be the Active Zone, the Kids’ Zone, music on the main stage all day long, food, business and community displays and vendors, and the evening Street Party with live bands on stage.

Rounding out Summerfest 2012 will be a Community Brunch in Peace Park on Sunday and a Fun Walk.

There will be so much more to report on as ideas become plans, and plans become reality.

Check back often and start planning your own participation in Summerfest 2012!

Wasn’t it a PARTY? Together We All Did Pelham PROUD!

Pelham Summerfest was a wonderful home-coming for many, an exciting celebration of hometown appreciation for those of us who do live here – and for our visitors – it likely stirred fond memories of their own special hometown.

On Saturday July 23rd, 2011 from Noon until Midnight thousands of local residents and visitors, friends and neighbours of all ages joined together in Downtown Fonthill and enjoyed an unforgettable Grand Re-opening Street Party!

Pelham certainly demonstrated why we describe ourselves as being a vibrant, creative and caring community. As Vickie Van Ravenswaay- our tireless Town of Pelham Manager of Recreational Services commented to me at the beginning of the day, it does indeed “take a village” to create the genuine and heart-felt communal experience that we shared at Pelham Summerfest.

Our festival was a culmination of years of work contributed from community volunteers, Town staff and our elected representatives.  It was an incredible celebration of the collaborative synergy of our community:

  • The aesthetic perspective of our Communities in Bloom and Town Beautification Committees
  • The active lifestyle vision of our Pelham Active Transportation Committee
  • The impetus to support and nurture our diverse and unique local businesses highlighted by the participation of the Pelham Business Association
  • The special ambiance contributed by our Arts community – the talented musicians & buskers and the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council’s A.M.P. fest at the Fonthill Bandshell and In the Orchard
  • The Skate Park, Climbing Wall, Bouncy Gyms combined with the Pelham Fire Department’s burning house game, the Disney character photo portraits, bubble machines, children’s paint mural for an unforgettable family friendly celebration that our children will forever remember
  • What a stunning Beer Corral! – The inspired design came to life with the donation of local wood trusses and under the watchful eye (and hammers) of over 20 local building contractors.
  • Thanks to the co-operation of four Pelham service clubs, the Fonthill and District Kinsmen, Rotary Club of Fonthill, Fonthill Lions, Fabulous Fenwick Lions our beer glasses were kept full until midnight by a friendly collective of 45 volunteers

The list goes on and on and I apologize in advance for those who I have not yet mentioned.  There are many, many more stories to share and we will continue to post all the submissions that we are receiving here on our Pelham Summerfest blog and via our Pelham Summerfest Facebook Page. Our email address is: summerfest@pelham.ca

Not Just your Average Beer Garden….

The Beer Corral at Pelham Summerfest features a one-of–kind design that will add incredible “wow factor” to the event. Local firm, Forestgreen Creations has partnered with Fonthill Lumber to build a shaded seated area that is composed of garden obelisks made from roof trusses. All parts of the corral will be sold to the highest bidder via silent auction throughout the day with all proceeds to be donated back to the Festival Committee.

Four local service clubs, the Fonthill and District Kinsmen, Rotary Club of Fonthill, Fonthill Lions and the Fabulous Fenwick Lions have partnered to collectively operate the Beer Corral throughout the festival.

The Pelham Summerfest Beer Corral experience – another fine example of how all facets of our vibrant, creative and caring Pelham community are joining together to participate in our grand re-opening street party. Get ready to celebrate our new and improved Downtown Fonthill like we have never seen it before!
